Adoption of Serbian resolution in UN evidence of Serbian government’s effective policy

Belgrade, Oct 9, 2008 – Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and Technological Development Bozidar Djelic said that the adoption of the Serbian resolution at the UN General Assembly is evidence of Serbian government’s effective policy based on EU integration and defence of sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.

In a statement to the Tanjug news agency, Djelic said that it turned out that Serbia is much stronger when calling on international law as it is much more effective in our situation than the use of force and instability.

We are thus increasing our respect, he explained noting that none of the EU countries voted against Serbia's initiative before the UN General Assembly to ask for an opinion over the legality of unilateral declaration of Kosovo-Metohija's independence.

This is another proof that the issue of Kosovo-Metohija needs to be solved in the UN, where it belongs, Djelic said.

According to him, Serbia must pursue two separate routes, defending its integrity and continuing with EU integration.
